Description
The Glucose Tolerance Test (3 Samples) is a comprehensive diagnostic tool used to evaluate how efficiently the body processes glucose. It’s primarily used to diagnose diabetes, gestational diabetes, and impaired glucose tolerance. The test involves taking three blood samples: one after an 8-12 hour fast, then two more samples at specific intervals (typically at 1 hour and 2 hours) after drinking a standardized glucose solution. By measuring glucose levels at these different time points, healthcare providers can assess how quickly the body clears glucose from the blood. This test provides more detailed information than a single fasting glucose test or HbA1c test. It’s particularly useful in cases where diabetes is suspected but not confirmed by other tests, or for pregnant women at risk of gestational diabetes.
