Description
The Estriol unconjugated (E3) test measures the levels of unconjugated estriol, a form of estrogen, in the blood. It’s primarily used during pregnancy as part of prenatal screening. This test helps assess fetal well-being and can indicate the risk of certain birth defects, particularly Down syndrome. It’s often performed as part of the triple or quad screening tests during the second trimester. Abnormal levels may suggest placental issues or fetal developmental problems. The results, combined with other tests, guide prenatal care and further diagnostic procedures if necessary.
