Description
The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) test measures the rate at which red blood cells settle in a tube of blood. It’s a non-specific marker of inflammation in the body. Elevated ESR can indicate various conditions, including infections, autoimmune diseases, and certain cancers. While not diagnostic on its own, ESR is useful for monitoring inflammatory diseases, assessing disease activity, and tracking treatment progress. It’s often used in conjunction with other tests for a comprehensive evaluation of a patient’s health status.
