Description
The Epstein-Barr Virus IgM Antibody (VCA) test identifies recent or active infections with the Epstein-Barr virus. It detects IgM antibodies against the viral capsid antigen (VCA). Positive results strongly suggest a current or recent EBV infection. This test is crucial for diagnosing infectious mononucleosis and other acute EBV-related conditions. When used in combination with the IgG test, it helps differentiate between acute and past infections. The results guide treatment decisions and patient management in EBV-related illnesses.
