Description
This test uses Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology to detect the presence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in urine samples. CMV is a common virus that can cause serious complications in newborns and immunocompromised individuals. The test is particularly useful for diagnosing congenital CMV infections in infants, where urine samples are preferred due to ease of collection. It’s also valuable for monitoring CMV reactivation in transplant recipients and other immunosuppressed patients. The high sensitivity of PCR allows for early detection and quantification of viral load, guiding treatment decisions and monitoring response to antiviral therapy.
