Description
CK-MB (Creatine Kinase-MB) is a cardiac-specific enzyme released when heart muscle cells are damaged. This test measures the levels of CK-MB in the blood. It is primarily used to diagnose myocardial infarction (heart attack) and to monitor its progress. The test can help determine the size and timing of a heart attack. It’s also useful in distinguishing heart-related chest pain from other causes. CK-MB levels typically rise within 4-6 hours after heart muscle damage and peak at 24 hours.
