Description
The CD4 & CD8 Count test measures the number of CD4 and CD8 T-lymphocytes in the blood. This test is crucial for assessing the overall health of the immune system, particularly in individuals with HIV/AIDS. CD4 cells, also known as T-helper cells, play a central role in orchestrating the immune response, while CD8 cells are cytotoxic T-cells that directly kill infected or cancerous cells. The ratio of CD4 to CD8 cells provides valuable information about immune function. In HIV patients, this test is used to monitor disease progression, determine when to start antiretroviral therapy, and assess the effectiveness of treatment.
