Description
The Cardiolipin IgM Antibody test detects the presence of immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies against cardiolipin in the blood. This test is part of the antiphospholipid antibody screening panel and is often performed alongside IgG and IgA tests. IgM anticardiolipin antibodies can indicate a more recent onset of autoimmune activity compared to IgG antibodies. Their presence is associated with an increased risk of thrombosis and pregnancy complications in antiphospholipid syndrome. However, IgM antibodies can also be transiently elevated in various conditions, including infections, so their clinical significance often requires careful interpretation in the context of other findings.
