Description
The Beta-2-Glycoprotein I IgA Antibody Serum test detects the presence of IgA antibodies targeting Beta-2-Glycoprotein I, a plasma protein involved in blood clotting. This test is primarily used in the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), an autoimmune disorder associated with an increased risk of blood clots and pregnancy complications. The presence of these antibodies can indicate an increased risk of thrombosis, recurrent miscarriages, or other pregnancy-related complications. This test is often performed alongside tests for other antiphospholipid antibodies to provide a comprehensive assessment. It’s particularly valuable in cases where standard antiphospholipid tests are negative but APS is still suspected. The results of this test can guide treatment decisions, including the use of anticoagulants or special monitoring during pregnancy in affected individuals.
