Description
The Anti Streptolisin O (ASO) test measures antibodies produced by the immune system in response to a streptococcal bacterial infection. Streptolysin O is an enzyme produced by Group A Streptococcus bacteria. This test is particularly useful in diagnosing recent strep infections and their complications, such as rheumatic fever or post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis. Elevated ASO levels indicate a recent or current streptococcal infection, but the test should be interpreted alongside clinical symptoms and other diagnostic tests.
