Description
The Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) test measures the level of this enzyme in the blood. ACE plays a crucial role in the renin-angiotensin system, which regulates blood pressure and fluid balance. While primarily used as an aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of sarcoidosis (where levels are often elevated), it can also be helpful in assessing certain cardiovascular conditions. Elevated ACE levels may indicate active inflammation in sarcoidosis, while changes in ACE can reflect the effectiveness of treatment. However, ACE levels can be affected by various factors, including medications and other medical conditions, so results must be interpreted in the context of other clinical findings.
