Description
This test is designed to detect the presence of acid-fast bacilli (AFB) in pus samples. It’s used to diagnose tuberculous abscesses, which can occur in various parts of the body as a form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. The test involves staining the pus sample and examining it under a microscope for the presence of acid-fast bacilli. While a positive result can indicate the presence of mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a negative result doesn’t rule out infection.
