Description
This test measures adenosine deaminase (ADA) levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It’s primarily used to diagnose tuberculous meningitis, an infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Elevated ADA levels in CSF can indicate tuberculous meningitis, helping differentiate it from other types of meningitis (bacterial or viral). The test is particularly valuable in regions with high tuberculosis prevalence or when conventional diagnostic methods are inconclusive. It aids in early diagnosis and timely initiation of appropriate treatment.
