Description

This test evaluates how efficiently the body processes glucose. After fasting, the patient drinks a solution containing 75 grams of glucose. Blood samples are then taken at specific intervals, usually at 0, 1, and 2 hours after consumption. The test helps diagnose diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes) in non-pregnant individuals. It’s particularly useful when fasting glucose levels are borderline or when there’s suspicion of diabetes despite normal fasting glucose.
