Description
The GeneXpert Carba-R is an advanced diagnostic test designed to detect the presence of carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPOs). These are bacteria that have developed resistance to carbapenem antibiotics, which are often considered the last line of defense against multi-drug resistant infections. The test can identify five of the most common carbapenemase genes: KPC, NDM, VIM, IMP-1, and OXA-48. Results are typically available in less than an hour, allowing for rapid implementation of infection control measures and appropriate antibiotic selection. This test is particularly important in hospital settings where the spread of antibiotic-resistant organisms is a major concern.
