Description
Gamma GT (GGTP), or Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase, is an enzyme test that primarily assesses liver function. It’s particularly sensitive to bile duct obstructions and alcohol-induced liver damage. Elevated levels of Gamma GT can indicate various liver diseases, including hepatitis, cirrhosis, and fatty liver disease. This test is also useful in monitoring alcohol consumption patterns, as it’s often elevated in individuals with chronic alcohol use. Additionally, Gamma GT can be used to differentiate between bone and liver sources of elevated alkaline phosphatase. It’s a valuable tool in the comprehensive evaluation of liver health and in detecting early stages of liver disease.
