Description
The Creatinine Clearance Test is a 24-hour urine collection test that measures how efficiently the kidneys filter creatinine, a waste product of muscle metabolism, from the blood. This test involves collecting all urine produced over a 24-hour period and a blood sample. By comparing the amount of creatinine in the urine to the amount in the blood, the test calculates the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is a key indicator of kidney function. The results help diagnose kidney diseases, assess the progression of chronic kidney disease, and guide treatment decisions. This test is more comprehensive than a simple serum creatinine test as it accounts for variations in creatinine production and excretion over time.
