Description
CPK-MB (Creatine Phosphokinase-Myocardial Band) is a specific isoenzyme of CPK that is primarily found in heart muscle cells. This test measures the levels of CPK-MB in the blood, which can be elevated following damage to the heart muscle, such as during a heart attack (myocardial infarction). The test is particularly useful in diagnosing heart attacks and assessing the extent of heart muscle damage. It’s often used in conjunction with other cardiac markers like troponin for a comprehensive evaluation of cardiac health. Elevated CPK-MB levels can indicate recent heart muscle damage, while the rate of decrease can provide information about the healing process.
