Description
The CA 15.3 test measures the level of Cancer Antigen 15.3 in the blood. This protein is produced by breast cancer cells and can be used as a tumor marker. The test is primarily used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment in women with advanced breast cancer and to detect cancer recurrence. It’s not recommended as a screening test for breast cancer in the general population due to its lack of specificity. CA 15.3 levels can also be elevated in other cancers and some non-cancerous conditions, so results must be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical information.
